|  | In Ireland, the Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations 1997 provide for the operation of disabled person’s parking permits (also known as European Parking Cards. The Blue Parking Card complies with EU Recommendation 98/376/EC which allows for its recognition in other EU Member states. The Parking Card must only be used by the person to whom it is issued. The vehicle on which it is displayed must be parked to facilitate access by the holder, whose name and photograph are displayed on the card, issue of the Parking Card are strict and only persons whose mobility is severely and permanently restricted qualify. |

|  | The card must be displayed on the windscreen and may be used by the disabled person in any vehicle in which they are travelling, either on the car as a driver or as a passenger.
Spaces allocated by a Local Authorities and Public Bodies extend free parking and it is without a time limit. Where a disabled space is unavailable, a local authorities and public bodies extend parking of the vehicle transporting the holder in general parking, at parking meters and in disc parking areas without charge and without a time limit.
The laws on parking do not extend to private car parks.
The EU Disabled Person’s Parking Card gives parking entitlements only in areas where parking is allowed; parking in clearway lanes, loading bays and bus corridors is not allowed. Possession of a parking card will not exempt you from being towed in these areas. Parking on double yellow lines is strictly forbidden.

|  | The Disabled Person’s Parking Card is issued on behalf of the Dept. of Transport by the Disabled Drivers Association, and by the Irish Wheelchair Association.
The EU Parking Card must be renewed every two years.
Each application should be accompanied by: 1. The old parking card (if it is being renewed) 2. One passport size photograph of applicant 3. A sample of the signature of applicant 4. Address of applicant 5. Fee of €25.

|  | Toll Roads |
|  | Disabled drivers and disabled passengers whose vehicles are tax exempt under the Drivers and Passengers with Disabilities Tax Relief Scheme are exempt from tolls on each toll road in the state.
Under the eflow system in operation on the M50 toll bridge, as you drive under the eFlow gantry on the M50, the photographic equipment will detect your vehicle registration number and recognise that you should not be charged.
On all the other toll roads the toll road operators issue special passes to facilitate such exempt passage. Passes issued by any one operator will be accepted by all other toll road operators.
