| | Blessington 500 2008 | | | | |  | | | | October 2008 | | | Sixteen kayakers braved the cold recently to take part in an abridged version of the Niamh McGrath Blessington 500 Challenge. It had been originally scheduled for the 4th of October but the vagaries of Irish weather had other ideas and it had to be postponed because of high winds.
Spinal Injuries Ireland had felt that they would wait until the spring to reschedule the challenge, but a number of kayakers from Sandycove Kayaking Club who had raised sponsorship were keen to do it sooner.
So keeping an eye on the weather we decided the first Saturday that there were no serous winds we would try and get on the water, and that’s why 16 kayakers took to the cold waters of Blessington Lake recently to insure that the Niamh McGrath 500 challenge was celebrated for the second year.
